Metacognition: Sophie's World Paper

The Sophie's World Paper was really important to me, because I felt that it reflected all of my progress throughout high school. Often when it came to writing essays, it always took me awhile to get ideas flowing, and I often struggled with portraying my ideas onto paper. I'm not saying that I didn't enjoy writing and every paper I produced was bad, but I can account for numerous occasions when I was not fully satisfied with the end result of my essay. This was something that I'd struggled with since Middle School. It felt like I had a permanent writers block.
However, when writing the Sophie's World Paper, strangely, the phrase 'writers block' became foreign, ideas flowed, thoughts were concise, and best of all, I was completely satisfied with my end result. I'm not sure if it was the uniqueness of the writing structure, but I'd like to think that there was some sort of shift in my writing. The latter was confirmed when I recently wrote a paper for social studies. I usually spend a long time, containing all the facts, re-paraphrasing, re-summarizing, re-expanding, and on and on. As you can imagine, it often takes me a long time. This time though, I was quick to gather the facts, and then immediately began my essay. I finished it in record time, and was very happy with the essay that was now in front of me!
After writing that Sophie's World Paper, I compared it to freshman year’s essays. I was completely shocked to see how absolutely different they were. To my left, was a rather unorganized, wordy, unstructured paper. To my right was a focused, concise, straight-to-the-point essay. Take a guess at which paper was from freshman year.
Throughout my high school course, my writing has been improving, little by little, with each writing assignment. While I'm sure I have much more to improve on, when writing that Sophie's World paper, I felt like it was all finally making sense. Knowing how much my writing improved was the greatest feeling of all.
As I said, when writing that Sophie's World paper, I realized how much my writing was progressing. One of the major points, and maybe the most important part of this whole improving process, is getting comfortable with your writing. By the end of the Sophie's paper, it finally occurred to me, that all of those little improvements lead up to that. I'm excited to see what other improvements will lead to!
I know my writing is nowhere near perfect, but it's progressing. Every time I write something, it's progressing. And that road is the one I want to be one.
